Background: Pulmonary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (PEH) is a rare vascular tumour, and its early diagnosis remains challenging. This study aims to comprehensively analyse the imaging features of PEH and develop a model for predicting PEH. Methods: Retrospective and pooled analyses of imaging findings were performed in PEH patients at our center (n=25) and in published cases (n=71), respectively. Relevant computed tomography (CT) images were extracted and used to build a deep learning model for PEH identification and differentiation from other diseases. Results: In this study, bilateral multiple nodules/masses (n=19) appeared to be more common with most nodules less than 2 cm. In addition to the common types and features, the pattern of mixed type (n=4) and isolated nodules (n=4), punctate calcifications (5/25) and lymph node enlargement were also observed (10/25). The presence of pleural effusion is associated with a poor prognosis in PEH. The deep learning model, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.71 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.69-0.72], has a differentiation accuracy of 100% and 74% for the training and test sets respectively. Conclusions: This study confirmed the heterogeneity of the imaging findings in PEH and showed several previously undescribed types and features. The current deep learning model based on CT has potential for clinical application and needs to be further explored in the future.

Dianthus superbus L. has been extensively studied for its potential medicinal properties in traditional Chinese medicine and is often consumed as a tea by traditional folk. It has the potential to be exploited in the treatment of inflammation, immunological disorders, and diabetic nephropathy. Based on previous studies, this study continued the separation of another subfraction of Dianthus superbus and established reversed-phase/reversed-phase and reversed-phase/hydrophilic (RPLC) two-dimensional (2D) high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) modes, quickly separating two C-glycosylflavones, among which 2″-O-rhamnosyllutonarin was a new compound and isomer with 6‴-O-rhamnosyllutonarin. This is the first study to investigate the effects of 2″-O-rhamnosyllutonarin and 6‴-O-rhamnosyllutonarin on cellular glucose metabolism in vitro. First, molecular docking was used to examine the effects of 2″-O-rhamnosyllutonarin and 6″-O-rhamnosyllutonarin on AKT and AMPK; these two compounds exhibited relatively high activity. Following this, based on the HepG2 cell model of insulin resistance, it was proved that both of the 2″-O-rhamnosyllutonarin and 6‴-O-rhamnosyllutonarin demonstrated substantial efficacy in ameliorating insulin resistance and were found to be non-toxic. Simultaneously, it is expected that the methods developed in this study will provide a basis for future studies concerning the separation and pharmacological effects of C-glycosyl flavonoids.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) is a rare interstitial lung disease characterised by the accumulation of lipoprotein material in the alveoli. Although dyslipidaemia is a prominet feature, the causal effect of lipid traits on PAP remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the role of lipid traits in PAP and evaluate the potential of lipid-lowering drug targets in PAP. METHODS: Clinical outcomes, lipid profiles and lung function tests were analysed in a clinical cohort of diagnosed PAP patients and propensity score-matched healthy controls. Genome-wide association study data on PAP, lipid metabolism, blood cells and variants of genes encoding potential lipid-lowering drug targets were obtained for Mendelian randomisation (MR) and mediation analyses. FINDINGS: Observational results showed that higher levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were associated with increased risks of PAP. Higher levels of TC and LDL were also associated with worse PAP severity. In MR analysis, elevated LDL was associated with an increased risk of PAP (OR: 4.32, 95% CI: 1.63 to 11.61, p=0.018). Elevated monocytes were associated with a lower risk of PAP (OR 0.34, 95% CI: 0.18 to 0.66, p=0.002) and mediated the risk impact of LDL on PAP. Genetic mimicry of PCSK9 inhibition was associated with a reduced risk of PAP (OR 0.03, p=0.007). INTERPRETATION: Our results support the crucial role of lipid and metabolism-related traits in PAP risk, emphasising the monocyte-mediated, causal effect of elevated LDL in PAP genetics. PCSK9 mediates the development of PAP by raising LDL. These finding provide evidence for lipid-related mechanisms and promising lipid-lowering drug target for PAP.

In addition to measuring the strain, stress, and Young's modulus of materials through tension and compression, in-plane shear modulus measurement is also an important part of parameter testing of composites. Tensile testing of ±45° composite laminates is an economical and effective method for measuring in-plane shear strength. In this paper, the in-plane shear modulus of T800 carbon fiber/epoxy composites were measured through tensile tests of ±45° composite laminates, and acoustic emission (AE) was used to characterize the damage of laminates under in-plane shear loading. Factor analysis (FA) on acoustic emission parameters was performed and the reconstructed factor scores were clustered to obtain three damage patterns. Finally, the development and evolution of the three damage patterns were characterized based on the cumulative hits of acoustic emission. The maximum bearing capacity of the laminated plate is about 17.54 kN, and the average in-plane shear modulus is 5.42 GPa. The damage modes of laminates under in-plane shear behavior were divided into three types: matrix cracking, delamination and fiber/matrix interface debonding, and fiber fracture. The characteristic parameter analysis of AE showed that the damage energy under in-plane shear is relatively low, mostly below 2000 mV × ms, and the frequency is dispersed between 150-350 kHz.

BACKGROUND: The clinical value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in assessing relapsing polychondritis (RP) with airway involvement remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate PET/CT features of RP with airway involvement and explore its clinical value in predicting disease pattern, severity and prognosis. METHODS: RP patients with airway involvement who underwent PET/CT from January 2010 to July 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. PET/CT features were analyzed both visually and semiquantitatively with the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG). Patterns of airway involvement on PET were summarized. Correlations of SUVmax and TLG of the airway were made with spirometric indicators and serological inflammatory markers (CRP and ESR). In addition, long-term follow-up was conducted through questionnaires in regard to symptom control, subjective feeling, pulmonary function, and quality of life. RESULTS: Fifty-two cases were finally included. 18F-FDG PET showed FDG-avid lesions with increased FDG uptake in the airway among 94.2% of the patients. Three patterns (focal, multifocal and diffuse patterns) were identified. TLG of the whole airway was lower in patients with previous therapy (p = 0.046). Bronchoscopy was more sensitive in detecting tracheal abnormalities (90.7% vs.53.5%, p = 0.039) but less sensitive for peripheral airway lesions (65.1% vs. 79.1%, p = 0.046) compared with PET. SUVmax and TLG of the airway positively correlated with spirometry indicators (FEV1%pred, FEV1/FVC, MEF 50%pred, etc.) and serological inflammatory markers. Five patients died during the follow-up, with two deaths related to airway problems. Higher FDG uptake predicted worse subjective feeling, but not with symptom control or pulmonary function. CONCLUSION: PET/CT is a valuable tool for RP with airway involvement, particularly in assessing peripheral airway lesions, and PET/CT related parameters are significantly associated with disease patterns, severity, and long-term outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world, coffee consumption has been growing in the United States over the past 20 years. Periodontitis is defined by the pathologic loss of the periodontal ligament and destruction of the connective tissue attachment and alveolar bone loss and is related to different systemic diseases and conditions. However, the causality has remained unclarified, thus we regarded discovering the causal relationship between coffee consumption and the liability to periodontitis as the objective of the study. METHODS: Coffee consumption was subdivided into binary coffee consumption and continuous coffee consumption to refine the study design. Genetic instruments were stretched from the MRC-IEU's (MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit) output from the GWAS pipeline using phesant-derived variables based on the UK Biobank, the Gene-Lifestyle Interactions in Dental Endpoints (GLIDE) project, and the joint meta-analysis of a recent GWAS. The IVW (Inverse Variance Weighted) was regarded as the primary method to estimate the causality, a scatter plot revealed the intuitive result, and tests for stability were also carried out. RESULTS: An effect of continuous coffee consumption on the risk of periodontitis was found, with per SD of coffee consumed increases, the risk of periodontitis rises by 1.04% (Odds Ratio of IVW is 1.0104), while the effect of binary coffee consumption on periodontitis did not meet the requirement of indicating a strong causal association, neither were the reverse causality analyses. CONCLUSIONS: The study indicated the causality of continuous coffee consumption to the risk of periodontitis with a relatively small scale of effect estimate and no strong evidence for an effect of binary coffee-consuming behavior on periodontitis. There was also no intensive evidence suggesting reverse causality.

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients often exhibit gastrointestinal symptoms, A potential association between COPD and Colorectal Cancer (CRC) has been indicated, warranting further examination. METHODS: In this study, we collected COPD and CRC data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, genome-wide association studies, and RNA sequence for a comprehensive analysis. We used weighted logistic regression to explore the association between COPD and CRC incidence risk. Mendelian randomization analysis was performed to assess the causal relationship between COPD and CRC, and cross-phenotype meta-analysis was conducted to pinpoint crucial loci. Multivariable mendelian randomization was used to uncover mediating factors connecting the two diseases. Our results were validated using both NHANES and GEO databases. RESULTS: In our analysis of the NHANES dataset, we identified COPD as a significant contributing factor to CRC development. MR analysis revealed that COPD increased the risk of CRC onset and progression (OR: 1.16, 95% CI 1.01-1.36). Cross-phenotype meta-analysis identified four critical genes associated with both CRC and COPD. Multivariable Mendelian randomization suggested body fat percentage, omega-3, omega-6, and the omega-3 to omega-6 ratio as potential mediating factors for both diseases, a finding consistent with the NHANES dataset. Further, the interrelation between fatty acid-related modules in COPD and CRC was demonstrated via weighted gene co-expression network analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment results using RNA expression data. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides novel insights into the interplay between COPD and CRC, highlighting the potential impact of COPD on the development of CRC. The identification of shared genes and mediating factors related to fatty acid metabolism deepens our understanding of the underlying mechanisms connecting these two diseases.

Background: Refractory chronic cough (RCC) has a significant impact on patient's health-related quality of life and represents a challenge in clinical management. However, the optimal treatment for RCC remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate and compare the efficacy and safety of the current pharmacological therapeutic options for RCC. Methods: A systematic review was performed by searching PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Ovid databases from January 1, 2008 to March 1, 2023. All randomised control trials (RCTs) reporting outcomes of efficacy or/and safety were included in the Bayesian network meta-analysis. Here, we compared the effects on Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and objective cough frequency of patients with RCC. Besides, we also compared the incidence of adverse events (AEs) for analysis of safety. PROSPERO registration: CRD42022345940. Findings: 19 eligible RCTs included 3326 patients and 7 medication categories: P2X3 antagonist, GABA modulator, Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) modulator, NK-1 agonist, opioid analgesic, macrolide, and sodium cromoglicate. Compared with placebo, mean difference (MD) of LCQ and 24 h cough frequency for P2X3 antagonist relief were 1.637 (95% CI: 0.887-2.387) and -11.042 (P = 0.035). Compared with placebo, effect sizes (MD for LCQ and cough severity VAS) for GABA modulator were 1.347 (P = 0.003) and -7.843 (P = 0.003). In the network meta-analysis, gefapixant is the most effective treatment for patients with RCC (The Surface Under the Cumulative Ranking Curves (SUCRA) is 0.711 in LCQ, 0.983 in 24 h cough frequency, and 0.786 in cough severity VAS). Lesogaberan had better efficacy than placebo (SUCRA: 0.632 vs. 0.472) in 24 h cough frequency. Eliapixant and lesogaberan had better efficacy than placebo in cough severity VAS. However, TRP modulator had worse efficacy than placebo. In the meta-analysis of AEs, the present study found P2X3 antagonist had a significant correlation to AEs (RR: 1.129, 95% CI: 1.012-1.259), especially taste-related AEs (RR: 6.216, P < 0.05). Interpretation: In this network meta-analysis, P2X3 antagonist showing advantages in terms of efficacy is currently the most promising medication for treatment of RCC. GABA modulator also showed potential efficacy for RCC but with AEs of the central system. Nevertheless, the role of TRP modulator needed to be revisited. Further research is needed to determine the potential beneficiary population for optimizing the pharmacological management of chronic cough. Background: Asthma is a public health problem worldwide. However, only a few studies have reported the epidemiology of asthma in various age groups in East Asia. The present study aimed to analyze and predict trends in the incidence of asthma in East Asia through the Global Burden of Disease 2019 (GBD 2019) study and provide information for prevention and control strategies. Methods: The estimates of incidence, deaths, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and risk factors of asthma in China, South Korea, Japan, and the world from 1990-2019 were retrieved from the GBD 2019 study. The age-standardized rates (ASRs) and the average annual percentage changes (AAPCs) assessed the incidence, deaths, and DALYs of asthma, and the projection was assessed by applying the age-period-cohort model. Results: The burden of asthma in South Korea and Japan was slightly higher than in China and slightly lower than that worldwide. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) of asthma in China decreased slightly from 394.58/100,000 in 1990 to 355.33/100,000 in 2019 (with an AAPC of -0.59), while the age-standardized death rate (ASDR) and the age-standardized DALY rate (ASDALR) decreased significantly (with a AAPCs of -5.22 and -2.89, respectively), which were lower than those in South Korea and Japan. Moreover, males in China, South Korea, and Japan were significantly more affected by tobacco and environmental/occupational factors than females, while the proportion of metabolic factors in females was higher than that in males. The prediction for the burden of asthma in the three East Asian countries continued to decline or stabilize until 2030, especially in China and Japan. Conclusions: Although the overall asthma burden has a downward trend according to GBD 2019, it is still heavy in East Asia, especially South Korea. In addition, increased concern and control measures are needed for the disease burden in elderly patients.

BACKGROUND: Asthma is a common respiratory disease caused by genetic and environmental factors, but the contribution of insulin use to the risk of asthma remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between insulin use and asthma in a large population-based cohort, and further explore their causal relationship by Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. METHODS: An epidemiological study including 85,887 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2001-2018 was performed to evaluate the association between insulin use and asthma. Based on the inverse-variance weighted approach, MR analysis were conducted to estimate the causal effect of insulin use on asthma from the UKB and FinnGen datasets, respectively. RESULTS: In the NHANES cohort, we found that insulin use was associated with an increased risk of asthma [odd ratio (OR) 1.38; 95% CI 1.16-1.64; p < 0.001]. For the MR analysis, we found a causal relationship between insulin use and a higher risk of asthma in both Finn (OR 1.10; p < 0.001) and UK Biobank cohorts (OR 1.18; p < 0.001). Meanwhile, there was no causal association between diabetes and asthma. After multivariable adjustment for diabetes in UKB cohort, the insulin use remained significantly associated with an increased risk of asthma (OR 1.17, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: An association between insulin use and an increased risk of asthma was found via the real-world data from the NHANES. In addition, the current study identified a causal effect and provided a genetic evidence of insulin use and asthma. More studies are needed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the association between insulin use and asthma.

BACKGROUND: The anterior insular cortex (AIC), a prominent salience network node, integrates interoceptive information and emotional states into decision making. While AIC activation during delay discounting (DD) in alcohol use disorder (AUD) has been previously reported, the associations between AIC activation, impulsive choice, alcohol consumption, and connectivity remain unknown. We therefore tested AIC brain responses during DD in heavy drinkers and their association with DD performance, alcohol drinking, and task-based connectivity. METHODS: Twenty-nine heavy drinkers (12 females; mean (SD) age=31.5 ± 6.1 years; mean (SD)=40.8 ± 23.4 drinks/week) completed a DD task during functional MRI. Regions activated during DD decision making were tested for correlation with DD behavior and alcohol drinking. Psychophysiological interaction (PPI) models assessed the task-dependent functional connectivity (FC) of activation during choice. RESULTS: Delay discounting choice activated bilateral anterior insular cortex, anterior cingulate cortex, and left precentral gyrus. Right dorsal (d) AIC activation during choice negatively correlated withdiscounting of delayed rewards and alcohol consumption. PPI analysis revealed FC of the right dAIC to both the anterior and posterior cingulate cortices-key nodes in the midline default mode network. CONCLUSIONS: Greater dAIC involvement in intertemporal choice may confer more adaptive behavior (lower impulsivity and alcohol consumption). Moreover, salience network processes governing discounting may require midline default mode (precuneus/posterior cingulate cortex) recruitment. These findings supporta key adaptive role for right dAIC in decision making involving future rewards and risky drinking.

BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer (GC) is a globally important disease. It is the 5th most common malignancy and the 4th most common cause of death from cancer in the world. Patients with GC are often at an advanced stage when they are first diagnosed, and their overall prognosis is poor due to locally advanced and distant metastasis. This study sought to establish a predictive model of GC distant metastasis and survival that can be used to guide individualized treatment. METHODS: Patients diagnosed with GC from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database were enrolled in the study. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify risk and prognostic factors for GC patients with distant metastasis. The factors were then used to construct nomograms to predict the probability of distant metastasis and the survival time of GC patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and decision curve analyses were used to verify the prediction ability of the nomograms. RESULTS: We established a comprehensive nomogram to predict the survival time of GC patients and 4 nomograms to predict distant metastasis. Nomograms could help oncologists to formulate treatment strategies and provide hospice care under an overall management model. CONCLUSIONS: Establishing a prediction model for distant metastasis and the survival of GC patients is of great clinical significance. The prediction of distant metastasis could help clinicians to make individualized assessments of patients and formulate individualized examination measures. Survival prediction models could help oncologists to formulate good treatment strategies and provide hospice care.

Background: Because stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD) has a poor prognosis, it is necessary to explore new prognostic genes to stratify patients to guide existing individualized treatments. Methods: Survival and clinical information, RNA-seq data and mutation data of STAD were acquired from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Fifty-one nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) metabolism-related genes (NMRGs) were obtained from the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and Reactome databases. Differentially expressed NMRGs (DE-NMRGs) between STAD and normal samples were screened, and consistent clustering analysis of STAD patients was performed based on the DE-NMRGs. Survival analysis, Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA), mutation frequency analysis, immune microenvironment analysis and drug prediction were performed among different clusters. Additionally, the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among different clusters were selected, and the intersections of DEGs and DE-NMRGs were selected as the prognostic genes. Finally, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was performed on a human gastric mucosa epithelial cell line and cancer cell line to verify the expression of the prognostic genes. Results: A total of 27 DE-NMRGs and two clusters were selected. There was a difference in survival between clusters 1 and 2. Furthermore, 18 DE-NMRGs were significantly different between clusters 1 and 2. The different Gene Ontology (GO) biological processes and KEGG pathways between clusters 1 and 2 were mainly enriched in cyclic nucleotide mediated signaling, synaptic signaling and hedgehog signaling pathway, etc. The somatic mutation frequencies were different between the two clusters, and TTN was the highest mutated gene in the patients of the clusters 1 and 2. Additionally, eight immune cells, immune score, stromal score, and estimate score were different between clusters 1 and 2. The patients in cluster 2 were sensitive to CTLA4 inhibitor treatment. Furthermore, the top five drugs (AP.24534, BX.795, Midostaurin, WO2009093927 and CCT007093) were significantly higher in cluster 1 than in cluster 2. Finally, three genes (AOX1, NNMT and PTGIS) were acquired as prognostic, and their expressions were consistent with the results of bioinformatics analysis. Conclusions: Three prognostic genes related to NAD+ metabolism in STAD were screened out, which provides a theoretical basis and reference value for future treatment and prognosis of STAD.

BACKGROUND: It is now recognized that the symptoms of colon cancer differ according to whether the tumor is located on the left or right side of the patient. The results of the present study point to the differences in the tissue and embryonic origins of left- and right-sided colon cancer that cause the variations in molecular typing. The research purpose of this study is to establish a core differential gene scoring model and proved its effect. METHODS: We downloaded transcriptome data and clinical information from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). A total of 243 patients in stages II and III were grouped according to the colon cancer site. Then we screened for differential transcriptome products. The corresponding differential gene were performing a corresponding protein interaction analysis. We used 12 algorithms in Cytoscape to calculate the hub genes and a total of 37 hub genes were obtained finally. We extracted the first principal component value (PC1) of the hub genes to evaluate the effectiveness of screening. Cox regression analysis was performed for the differential genes. Finally, we performed a prognostic analysis on right-sided colon cancer patients using the BST2 gene, PC1 and relevant clinical information. RESULTS: After screening for differentially expressed genes, 37 hub genes were obtained with appropriate algorithms. PC1 showed differences in hub genes between left- and right-sided colon cancer patients. BST2 and 31 other genes were identified as significant by Cox regression analysis and were significantly mutated in patients with right-sided colon cancer. Finally, we selected the BST2 gene and relevant clinical information as the prognostic factors to build a scoring model. The prediction effect of the model was satisfied. CONCLUSIONS: We constructed a prognostic model based on BST2, PC1, and other relevant clinical information and proved its good effect.

OBJECTIVE: To study longitudinal recovery trajectories of white matter after sports-related concussion (SRC) by performing diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) on collegiate athletes who sustained SRC. METHODS: Collegiate athletes (n = 219, 82 concussed athletes, 68 contact-sport controls, and 69 non-contact-sport controls) were included from the Concussion Assessment, Research and Education Consortium. The participants completed clinical assessments and DTI at 4 time points: 24 to 48 hours after injury, asymptomatic state, 7 days after return-to-play, and 6 months after injury. Tract-based spatial statistics was used to investigate group differences in DTI metrics and to identify white-matter areas with persistent abnormalities. Generalized linear mixed models were used to study longitudinal changes and associations between outcome measures and DTI metrics. Cox proportional hazards model was used to study effects of white-matter abnormalities on recovery time. RESULTS: In the white matter of concussed athletes, DTI-derived mean diffusivity was significantly higher than in the controls at 24 to 48 hours after injury and beyond the point when the concussed athletes became asymptomatic. While the extent of affected white matter decreased over time, part of the corpus callosum had persistent group differences across all the time points. Furthermore, greater elevation of mean diffusivity at acute concussion was associated with worse clinical outcome measures (i.e., Brief Symptom Inventory scores and symptom severity scores) and prolonged recovery time. No significant differences in DTI metrics were observed between the contact-sport and non-contact-sport controls. CONCLUSIONS: Changes in white matter were evident after SRC at 6 months after injury but were not observed in contact-sport exposure. Furthermore, the persistent white-matter abnormalities were associated with clinical outcomes and delayed recovery time.

Dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) estimates time-dependent associations between pairs of brain region time series as typically acquired during functional MRI. dFC changes are most commonly quantified by pairwise correlation coefficients between the time series within a sliding window. Here, we applied a recently developed bootstrap-based technique (Kudela et al., 2017) to robustly estimate subject-level dFC and its confidence intervals in a task-based fMRI study (24 subjects who tasted their most frequently consumed beer and Gatorade as an appetitive control). We then combined information across subjects and scans utilizing semiparametric mixed models to obtain a group-level dFC estimate for each pair of brain regions, flavor, and the difference between flavors. The proposed approach relies on the estimated group-level dFC accounting for complex correlation structures of the fMRI data, multiple repeated observations per subject, experimental design, and subject-specific variability. It also provides condition-specific dFC and confidence intervals for the whole brain at the group level. As a summary dFC metric, we used the proportion of time when the estimated associations were either significantly positive or negative. For both flavors, our fully-data driven approach yielded regional associations that reflected known, biologically meaningful brain organization as shown in prior work, as well as closely resembled resting state networks (RSNs). Specifically, beer flavor-potentiated associations were detected between several reward-related regions, including the right ventral striatum (VST), lateral orbitofrontal cortex, and ventral anterior insular cortex (vAIC). The enhancement of right VST-vAIC association by a taste of beer independently validated the main activation-based finding (Oberlin et al., 2016). Most notably, our novel dFC methodology uncovered numerous associations undetected by the traditional static FC analysis. The data-driven, novel dFC methodology presented here can be used for a wide range of task-based fMRI designs to estimate the dFC at multiple levels-group-, individual-, and task-specific, utilizing a combination of well-established statistical methods.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is the most common pulmonary manifestation of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) lung disease. The mechanism of RA-ILD remains obscure and more effective treatments are still needed. Resveratrol (RSV) a phytoalexin found with anti-inflammation and antioxidant activity. RSV has been reported to protect against RA. In current study, we evaluated the effects of RSV on RA-ILD and further explored the underlying mechanisms. We established the RA-ILD rat model by injecting Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA). After administration of RSV into RA-ILD rats, the disease parameters were assessed, inflammatory cytokines productions were analyzed, and the effects of RSV on JAK/STAT/RANKL were evaluated. Injection of FCA caused RA-ILD in rats, which had clear lung damage, fibrosis, and elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines in both serum and lung. RSV treatment significantly ameliorated the lung disease and prevented pro-inflammatory cytokines production. In addition, RSV inhibited JAK/STAT/RANKL signaling pathway in RA-ILD rats. RSV treatment alleviates RA-ILD in rats by inhibiting JAK/STAT/RANKL signaling pathway.
